We do not complain about work, but we do not have the necessary protection to feel safe.

Rosa y Sabas; somos una pareja de trabajadores agrícolas de la tercera edad. Por los últimos cinco años hemos trabajado en las florerías del condado de Boulder. Por nuestra edad nos emos enfrentado a desafíos físicos y emocionales de compañeros y patrones.

Cuando trabajamos, siempre necesitamos de guantes para cubrirnos nuestras manos de cortaduras y lesiones ya que a nuestra edad las cosas son más difíciles. Queremos tener ropa que nos proteja del sol y el calor como también zapatos adecuados para el frio, pero con nuestro salario no nos ajusta para comprar ropa tan buena. En días de lluvia o nieve nos ayudaría mucho unos ponchos para cubrir la poca ropita que tenemos para trabajar.  No nos quejamos del trabajo, pero no contamos con la protección necesaria para sentirnos seguros.

A través de la promotora de Protegiendo al Trabajador del Campo finalmente hemos recibido respeto, amabilidad y recursos. Por los últimos meses ella nos apoya con un poco de despesa, cuando tiene nos da cubre boca y hasta un poquito de ropa. No tenemos palabras para agradecer el apoyo, la generosidad que ahora recibimos. La promotora nos deja saber que hay gente buena, que hay programas para el trabajador agrícola.

We are a couple of elderly farm workers. For the past five years we have worked in flower shops in Boulder County. Because of our aged we have faced physical and emotional challenges from co-workers and employers.

When we work, we always need gloves to cover our hands from cuts and injuries because at our age things are more difficult. We want to have clothes to protect us from the sun and heat as well as shoes to protect us from the cold, but with our salary we can't afford to buy such good clothes. On rainy or snowy days it would help us a lot to have ponchos to cover the little clothes we have for work.  We don't complain about the work, but we don't have the necessary protection to feel safe.

Through the promotora of Project Protect Food Systems we have finally received respect, kindness and resources. For the last few months she has been supporting us with a little bit of money, when she has it, she gives us face masks and even a little bit of clothing. We have no words to thank her for the support, the generosity we now receive. The promotora lets us know that there are good people, that there are programs for farm workers.
