I know I won't be here long, but I want you to know that a farmworker leaves his life in the fields, his life growing food for others to eat.

Esa señorita me trae compañía, me ayuda a no sentirme solo.

Show Translation? My name is Romualdo and I am a farm worker originally from Peru. I have worked in the fields all my life, now, as life would have it, I find myself alone on a ranch in Boulder County, with cancer. Unfortunately, I am not having a good time at all with my illness. The chemotherapy days are very difficult and I can't even get up.
A few months ago a lady from Project Protect Food Systems visited me and brought me little things that her program sends me. She brings me company, helps me not to feel alone. She also looks for resources for me, resources that I can no longer get because I am hopeless. Before, I wanted to go back to Peru so I wouldn't die alone, now I have company and someone who cares about me. I have asked the lady from the program to bring me some blankets for the cold or a little warmth, she very kindly tells me that she is looking for them.
I just want to say that I had never felt this support, I had never felt that there were people out there who cared about a farm worker. I thank this lady that in such difficult moments she has even been able to pay for my stove because my illness does not allow me to get up and do it. She has been an angel that protects me and accompanies me. I know I will not be here for long, but I want you to know that a farm worker leaves his life in the fields, his life harvesting food for others to eat.
