She says she doesn't know how to do any work other than in the fields.

Conocí a una señora trabajadora agrícola. Es una persona de 60 años. Ella tiene 40 años trabajando en la agricultura. Platiqué con ella sobre sus experiencias, “vivencias”, en este trabajo. Me contó dónde ha trabajado y sus planes para el futuro.

Hoy les platicaré sobre una trabajadora que conocí en un campo agrícola. Ella tiene 40 años trabajando en la agricultura. Desde joven emigró de México a California. Ahí fueron sus comienzos en trabajos agrícolas. Esta señora ha trabajado en la fresa, durazno, naranja, manzana y uvas.

 Para ella fue difícil continuar trabajando en California porque sufrió abusos en su trabajo: como largas jornadas de trabajo y al final no recibir pago. Fue estafada, se lastimó y no recibió apoyo por su empleador .Lo que la obligó a venir a Colorado fue que inmigración empezó a ir a los lugares de trabajo y su trabajo fue uno de ellos.

Actualmente ella está aquí.  Renta un lugar muy pequeño. Es solo un cuarto donde ella duerme.  Cocina en una pequeña parrilla. No cuenta con cocina ni sala, comparte el baño. Esta trabajadora no se casó, no tiene hijos. Me dice que ya a sus 65 años de edad no tiene la fuerza que tenía y le preocupa mucho el futuro. Ella dice que no sabe hacer otro trabajo que no sea de campo, no sabe leer ni escribir. Me dice que en mí ha encontrado un gran apoyo y por primera vez una persona que la entiende y en la que puede confiar.

I met a lady farm worker. She is 60 years old. She has been working in agriculture for 40 years. I talked to her about her experiences, "vivencias", in this work. She told me where she has worked and her plans for the future.

Today I will tell you about a worker I met in an agricultural field. She has been working in agriculture for 40 years. At a young age, she migrated from Mexico to California. That is where she got her start in agricultural work. This lady has worked in strawberries, peaches, oranges, apples and grapes.

 It was difficult for her to continue working in California because she suffered abuses in her work, such as long hours and not getting paid. She was scammed, and hurt and received no support from her employer. What forced her to come to Colorado was that immigration started going to the job sites and her job was one of them.

She is currently here. She rents a very small place. It's just a room where she sleeps.  She cooks on a small grill. She has no kitchen or living room, she shares a bathroom. This worker is not married, she has no children. She tells me that at 65 years of age she does not have the strength she used to have and she is very worried about the future. She says she doesn't know how to do any work other than in the fields, she cannot read or write. She tells me that in me she has found great support and for the first time a person who understands her and whom she can trust.
