Mrs. A is an 18-year-old hardworking [hemp] picker, she has worked in the fields for a long time in Weld County, previously she has worked in LA picking grape, packing carrots and orange, after that she moves to Colorado, where her 8-month-old baby borne. She says living and working at Colorado as farm worker is not all bad. Sometimes is too hard for wheatear conditions, because the weather makes their work complicated, especially because the bosses don't even give them face masks for the dust and they don't let them wear gloves so as not to damage the [hemp]. She said is difficult not because the hard work but the abuse. She comments that although it is not that difficult to collect [hemp], it is challenging to breathe the dust all the time and although the employer has offered her a good salary, unfortunately they did not fulfill their commitment and did not pay them what they worked, in fact she was not the only one employee who was left without pay, there were even people who were owed wages since May.
She shared a bad experience in Colorado when an employer refused to pay them, and no longer answered their calls or allowed them to come to the farm. She strongly feels that there should be regulations, someone to help them, because that is not fair, she has had to borrow, she even asked institutions for help, but the help she received from them was little. She comments that we, PPPN has been the only organization that has helped her. When asked what she would say to senators given the chance, she commented that she would like them to protect and help them, to have a fair treatment and to be paid for what they have worked on time and not months later, because she has to support her baby and her husband was also fired without pay. That makes life very difficult for them.
