TESTIMONY: EX WORKER OF PRO HEALTH

Well, I and many of my colleagues worked between 12-15 or more hours a day. There was a great deal of struggle to ask for permissions. They never wanted to give me a day off, and the plant manager even tore my leave in front of some of my coworkers supposedly because there was no permissions for leave.

The supervisor would tell us that the boss would say that he didn’t care if I didn’t have a nanny or that I felt sick, that a headache or a flu was not an excuse to miss work. The supervisor would always yell at me often to the point of making me cry, but they knew I needed the job. In fact, many times they denied me and my friend a break (rest). Everyone would go out for a break and they wouldn’t tell me so I had to continue working.

I couldn’t complain because human resources (she) would immediately call the supervisor and tell them everything and they were all the same.

The human resources person also yelled at me and treated me very badly. Before, they used to give us a 15 minute rest break every 2:30 hours and 30 minutes at mid-day, but then the regulation changed and the breaks were now 10 minutes every 4 hours and we couldn’t leave to use the bathroom during the time we were working. They told us that’s what the 10 minutes were for, to use the bathroom, eat something and make phone calls. Another one of the rules was that we could not be absent when we were experiencing our menstrual period, which the truth is I don’t know where they came up with that rule.

If we happened to be absent a day during the week we had to work Saturdays and Sundays as a punishment for our absence.

Also, if we were experiencing colic it was not an excuse to miss or go to the bathroom. Many of us as women didn’t have the time or the privacy that is needed for those menstruation days. We had to be present, that they would provide us pills for the pain. Roughly, there were 60 of us women who worked there and there were only 3 bathrooms, only two of which worked and two of them didn’t even have a lock for the door and we didn’t have privacy.

For the men there was only 1 bathroom for 50 male workers.

They built new bathrooms and a cafeteria but a sign was posted in each one saying that they were not for employee use. They kept leaving us in the same bathrooms and in the same break space.

The space for breaks is very small for all the personnel.

They never respected the rules for coronavirus either.

And let's not talk about our unjustified dismissal for many of us who had been working for them for more than 20 years with the same documents all our lives.

Thank you for listening to me and hopefully this law is approved.
