Promotora Claudia Chavez interacted with agricultural workers on the north side of Colorado during the Fall. She spoke to the workers in groups and individually in-person at their workplace which sometimes meant she was at a farm. She also communicated with them using WhatsApp or through text messages. One day in September 2021 in the ranch of Palombo Farm, the boss only let Claudia visit the workers at 12pm during lunchtime outside of the ranch near a tree where the workers go rest. There were 14 workers and 3 more came. Ten of the workers were fijos, and seven of them were contracted workers.
When Claudia was on the ranch with the workers, their employer came on his truck to see what she brought them, then said bye and left. The contracted workers were afraid of telling Claudia where they lived and there were 50 more workers that lived with them that also worked on a farm. She could not find the other workers to continue giving them financial assistance. The fijos asked for help with their rent because it was high. They also asked if they could bring them jugs of 20 liters so that they could fill them with water. There were three groups, and each group had one jug they would use, and it usually ran out of water during the middle of the day and the well was far from where they would work so they needed more jugs to have more water. They also asked for gloves because they were cutting cucumber, cilantro, jalapenos, poblano chiles, melon and watermelon. They also continued to need sunscreen and long sleeve shirts. Although there were workers that were afraid of telling Claudia where they lived, they were very happy and grateful for the help that they received. In total Claudia was able to help 17 of these farm workers.
