              <text>Center, Colorado has migrant camps where four seasonal workers, per room, sleep and shower during the height of the season. This past summer summer (2020) we had an experience where a man named José, who was temporarily here from Arizona to work in lettuce and carrot fields felt ill but was restricted from leaving the facility. José called a San Luis Valley Promotora at 2:00am to request help. Anita (the promotora) and he had passed money and phone cards through the chain link fence in the past, building trust through communication, resources and support that were unavailable to him otherwise. After discussing his symptoms, Anita and José decided to wait until sunrise to see if his condition improved. When Anita received a phone call in the morning telling her the condition was worsening, she headed to the labor camp to help. Anita asked Jose to find a way to leave so she could bring him to urgent care. Jose's only choice was to jump the fence because this was the only way to get the treatment he needed. Anita, using her network of promotores had a colleague, Lisa, call ahead to the urgent care to let them know the situation and reduce any issues upon their arrival.</text>

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:27.000

00:29.000 --> 01:16.001

01:19.000 --> 01:52.000
[Promotora] Ok.

01:56.000 --> 02:26.000

02:27.000 --> 03:14.000

03:14.500 --> 03:31.001
[Promotora] Ok. ¿Por qué trabajas aquí en Colorado? ¿Por qué escogiste venir aquí a Colorado o por qué aquí Colorado?

03:31.010 --> 04:00.001

04:00.500 --> 04:17.000

04:18.000 --> 05:07.000
[Promotora] Ok.

05:09.050 --> 05:18.000
[Promotora] Ok. Última pregunta: ¿Quieres permanecer anónimo?
[Trabajadora] Sí, sí

05:18.700 --> 05:40.000

05:41.000 --> 05:44.000
[Promotora] Sin dar tu rostro, ni tu nombre.
[Trabajadora] No, así está bien.

05:45.200 --> 06:01.000

06:01.200 --> 06:11.000

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:27.000
[Promotora] Starting the interview with another farm worker from here in Colorado. Lets start
with this person who is working, she is working in the plantation area and they are picking fruits, vegetables, everything. From planting to harvest.

00:29.000 --> 01:16.001
[Promotora] Ok, let's start with the first question, which is: Can you tell me a little about what it's like to work in Colorado as a farm worker?
[Worker] Yes, well, it is somewhat difficult, but at the same time it is beautiful because it has one … there you can eat any of the vegetables. And the difficult part, well it is because of time, because it rains, then it gets really hot, like as for gloves, when it begins to rain, we get all wet even with the equipment.

01:19.000 --> 01:52.000
[Promotora] Ok. Please describe your experience working on farms in Colorado. How has your
experience at work been?
[Worker] Well, it has been difficult because, one arrives here with nothing. You don't have one
piece of furniture to move around, and you struggle to go to work. And all that, one battles to
do it, but one has to keep moving forward like… in any way you can but one has to keep moving
forward.

01:56.000 --> 02:26.000
[Worker] At work, you have to keep going.
[Promotora] Ok. What would be a difficult thing about working with Colorado farmers, on farms? Something difficult, something that is difficult for you? Or that it is difficult for your colleagues?
[Worker] No, well, once you start working, it is not difficult anymore, knowing how to do the job is not so difficult anymore.

02:27.000 --> 03:14.000
[Worker] The difficult thing is, like, when one arrives here that one does not have the means to
continue at work.
[Promotora] Ok. What do you think causes some difficulties?
[Worker] Well, the climate, the weather. Especially when it's really hot, one does get tired.
One wants to drink plenty of water. If it rains, you want to have a rubber to cover yourself. There are many difficulties in working in the fields, it is not easy at all. It is very difficult, very hard.

03:14.500 --> 03:31.001
[Promotora] Do they have to work under ... under the demands of the Sun?
[Worker] Yes
[Promotora] Ok. Why do you work here in Colorado? Why did you choose to come here to
Colorado or why here in Colorado?

03:31.010 --> 04:00.001
[Worker] Because I … part of my family worked here, my dad. I came here because he was the
one who supported me to be here and move on. And I'm here, like this, that's why I'm still here.
[Promotora] Ok. What was it that made you come to emigrate, practically, here to Colorado? Or come and settle here in Colorado?

04:00.500 --> 04:17.000
[Worker] Because of necessity, due to having nothing in Mexico. Nothing, nothing. So that was
what motivated me to come here.
[Promotora] Did that make you emigrate here?[Worker] Yes

04:18.000 --> 05:07.000
[Promotora] Ok. If you could have a minute to speak directly to the state legislators, the
representatives, the ones with power in the government. What would you say to them?
[Worker] Well, the same thing that I am telling you. That it’s no… it is not easy to work in the
field. We do struggle because work ends, or your job runs out and then you have nowhere to go.
Because you don't have good insurance, you have to struggle, looking for work in the fields, on the farms here.

05:09.050 --> 05:18.000
[Promotora] Ok. Last question: Do you want to remain anonymous?
[Worker] Yes, yes.

05:18.700 --> 05:40.000
[Promotora] This video would be … this that we recorded would only be shared at work with us.
But it wouldn't be that we reveal your name, or anything like that. It would only be how we have taken it, back to back. And do you agree that it is okay for us to just disclose it, as we are doing?

05:41.000 --> 05:44.000
[Promotora] Without showing your face or your name.
[Worker] No, that's fine.

05:45.200 --> 06:01.000
[Promotora] Ok, well thank you very much and another thing I would like to add. This person
here is very excited because of her mother.
[Worker] Yes
[Promotora] She comes tomorrow from Mexico, after 18 years without seeing her.

06:01.200 --> 06:11.000
[Promotora] She’s coming and that makes her very happy.
[Worker] Yes, that is another thing that is also difficult, because you leave what you love the
most, which is your family.</text>

01:07.500 --> 01:49.000
[Promotora] Ok.

01:50.000 --> 02:06.000
[Promotora] Ok. ¿Por qué trabajas aquí en Colorado? ¿Qué te trae por aquí?
[Trabajador] Familiares.

02:06.500 --> 02:51.000
[Promotora] Ok.

02:51.700 --> 03:00.000
[Promotora] Ok. ¿Quieres permanecer enanonimato o quieres decir tu nombre?
[Promotora] Ok, gracias.
[Trabajador] Hasta luego.</text>

Can you tell me a bit, excuse me, tell me a little about what it's like to work in Colorado, as an agricultural worker?
[Worker] Yes, the truth is that it is a bit of a difficult job. Because, well, we are always exposed to changes in the weather, and it is not a job that really pays very well.

01:07.500 --> 01:49.000
[Promotora] Ok. What's so difficult about working with farmer… Colorado farmers, in Colorado farms? What do you think causes these difficulties?
[Worker] Well I think it is … You know, we put in many hours, so like the season we work, we work for a long time and they don't pay us overtime. We don't have vacation days and because of the weather, it's also a bit difficult that we work long, long hours without getting paid for extra time - overtime.

01:50.000 --> 02:06.000
[Promotora] Ok. Why do you work here in Colorado? What brings you here?
[Worker] Family. I have relatives who came here before me and it was already through them that I can come here, to work as well.

02:06.500 --> 02:51.000
[Promotora] Ok. If you could have 60 seconds to speak directly to the leguil... sorry, state legislators, what would you say to them?
[Worker] Well, I would tell them that I would like them to help us as farmers in the way that, well, for example: get paid for overtime, what did they give us… that we had a little more rights and that they pass some law or something that will help us, like, for example: As an immigrant, if they could help us with a work permit or something else like that.

02:51.700 --> 03:00.000
[Promotora] Ok. Do you want to remain anonymous, or do you want to say your name?
[Worker] Yes, I would like to remain anonymous, please.
[Promotora] Ok, thanks.
[Worker] See you later.</text>

Sí o sí, tengo un compromiso
con mi familia. Tengo que estar trabajando de todas maneras.

01:13.500 --> 01:37.000

01:38.000 --> 01:56.000

01:58.000 --> 02:36.000

02:37.750 --> 00:16.000
[Promotora] Ok, ¿quieres permanecer en anónimo o si quieres dar tu nombre?
[Trabajador] No, así está bien.
[Promotora] Ok, gracias</text>

              <text>La Sra.

She says living and working at Colorado as farm worker is not all bad. Sometimes is too hard for wheatear conditions, because the weather makes their work complicated, especially because the bosses don't even give them face masks for the dust and they don't let them wear gloves so as not to damage the [hemp]. She said is difficult not because the hard work but the abuse. She comments that although it is not that difficult to collect [hemp], it is challenging to breathe the dust all the time and although the employer has offered her a good salary, unfortunately they did not fulfill their commitment and did not pay them what they worked, in fact she was not the only one employee who was left without pay, there were even people who were owed wages since May.

She shared a bad experience in Colorado when an employer refused to pay them, and no longer answered their calls or allowed them to come to the farm. She strongly feels that there should be regulations, someone to help them, because that is not fair, she has had to borrow, she even asked institutions for help, but the help she received from them was little. She comments that we, PPPN has been the only organization that has helped her. When asked what she would say to senators given the chance, she commented that she would like them to protect and help them, to have a fair treatment and to be paid for what they have worked on time and not months later, because she has to support her baby and her husband was also fired without pay. That makes life very difficult for them.</text>

02:25.000 --> 02:30.000

00:58.500 --> 01:19.000

[Worker] And well, something that would make my job easier, simpler, I think it would be to have more modern equipment. Newer units, in better condition. It would be something that would make my work easier, apart from the fact that it would be more comfortable to do the work.

01:20.000 --> 01:45.500

[Worker] Well, regarding the pay, like, I cannot complain. But we are always looking for a way to earn a little more, to make a little more money. And then also when there is an increase in salary and this ... makes us feel more motivated, I think.

01:46.000 --> 02:01.000

[Worker] Well there are always needs. There are always many types, but, Right now what comes to mind, a concern, I would like among many other things, for example: if they gave me uniforms.

02:01.500 --> 02:23.000

[Worker] It would be of great help to me, it would be, well, one less burden. Besides, I wouldn't have to be buying my clothes and wearing my clothes at work. That sometimes it gets stained with oil or something else and so with the uniforms it would be a great help.

02:25.000 --> 02:30.000

[Worker] Yes, yes I would like to remain anonymous please.</text>

[Promotora] ¿Bueno?

00:09.000 --> 00:45.

[Promotora] Muy bien.

¿Ok?

00:47.000 --> 01:21.000

01:23.000 --> 01:46.200

01:49.000 --> 01:57.500

[Trabajador] Es por hora, por hora.

[Promotora] ¿Cuánto le pagan a la hora?

[Trabajadora] 13 dólares la hora.

[Promotora] 13 dólares la hora.

01:59.750 --> 02:31.000

[Promotora] ¿Disfruta de días de vacaciones o pagadas o días de enfermedad? … ¿o se lo quitan del sueldo?

[Trabajador] De todo el tiempo…

[Trabajador] De todo el tiempo que tengo yo en Colorado he trabajado en lechería, pocas horas he trabajado en el campo. He trabajado lechería, nunca he agarrado vacaciones, no he ganado ningún beneficio de días de enfermedad, ningún día extra me han pagado, yo no he ganado nada en lo que es de lechería, lo que es de empresa de lecherías.

02:31.000 --> 03:19.000

[Promotora] Ok.

03:20.000 --> 03:55.200

03:56.000 --> 04:27.000

04:27.700 --> 04:59.000

[Promotora] Ok

05:00.000 --> 05:20.200

[Trabajador] Exactamente.

[Promotora] Ok

05:00.000 --> 05:48.000

05:50.000 --> 06:31.000

06:33.000 --> 06:48.000

06:50.000 --> 07:21.500

07:22.750 --> 07:53.000

07:54.000 --> 08:29.000

08:30.000 --> 08:48.000

[Trabajador] Doce horas.

[Promotora] Ok.

[Trabajador] Porque no creen.

[Promotora] Ok.

08:51.000 --> 09:14.000

09:15.000 --> 09:55.250

09:55.750 --> 10:06.000

10:07.000 --> 10:31.000

[Promotora] Ok.

[Trabajador] Ok, muchas gracias.

              <text>
00:00.000 --> 00:08.200

[Promotora] Hello?

[Worker] Yes

[Promotora] Ok, do you agree that we record this call?

[Worker] Yes, it's fine, I agree.

00:09.000 --> 00:45.000

[Promotora] Very good. Let's start with the first question: Can you tell me a little about what it's like to work in Colorado as an Agricultural Worker? Please describe your experience working on Colorado farms.

[Worker] Ok. My experience with farms here in Colorado is that they pay very little, they pay very little wages. That, the managers who work want to pay very little. They demand more work from you all the time, do you get me? That is the only reason, of what is the field and dairies. Okay?

00:47.000 --> 01:21.000

[Promotora] Ok, how are the working conditions?

[Worker] Well, the working conditions are very, very bad. For this reason, the lunches ... they want to give us a lunch at 12 noon. There are some places that only want to give you one, there is a lunch and there are other places that - the bathrooms, they have them very bad. There aren't… they don't have their services - their business arranged, is the problem.

01:23.000 --> 01:46.200

[Promotora] Regarding salary, do you think they pay enough?

[Worker] I think that the salaries for what is the heaviest work in the field and dairy, I think the salaries are very low, it's very little money.

[Promotora] In his experience, referring to the places where he has worked, Have you ever been paid by the hour or by salary?

01:49.000 --> 01:57.500

[Worker] It's by the hour, by the hour.

[Promotora] How much do they pay you per hour?

[Worker] $13 an hour.

[Promotora] $13 an hour.

01:59.750 --> 02:31.000

[Promotora] Do you enjoy vacation or paid days or sick days? … Or do they take it out of your salary?

[Worker] All the time …

[Worker] Of all the time that I have in Colorado I have worked in dairy, few hours I have worked in the field. I have worked dairy, I have never taken a vacation, I have not earned any sick day’s benefits, I have not been paid any extra day, I have not won anything in what is dairy, what is a dairy company.

02:31.000 --> 03:19.000

[Promotora] Ok. The second question is, what's so difficult about working with Colorado farmers and on which Colorado farms or what do you think is the most difficult cause? In your words, what do you think is the most difficult thing about working on farms here in Colorado?

[Worker] The hardest thing is … Well, the most difficult thing is that in cold times one has to work at very high temperatures, how do you say? Very high. It doesn't matter if it's snowing, it is raining, being below zero. You have to do the work, like, break the ice from the water of the cows or have to bring the animals. It doesn't matter the weather; it doesn't matter any of that.

03:20.000 --> 03:55.200

[Worker] One has to do the job, because there is no one to do it.

[Promotora] And in your experience, how have you been treated by employers or farmers here in Colorado? Those in charge of the lands.

[Worker] Well, those in charge are a bit … that's the problem, with the race of one, that the managers always try to demand more work, but never … they demand more work from you, but they never ask for a raise. They never tell the boss: give the workers a raise. Never, is it because of one's race.

03:56.000 --> 04:27.000

[Promotora] And you, why haven't you asked for a raise directly with the boss? Because of the language, do you have a language barrier? do you not speak English or because there is no closer contact with the bosses?

[Worker] No. There is no such contact with the bosses. Now, that contact no longer exists close to the patterns. They have put some, like, some rules that we can only address with the manager so that one does not request the increase directly from the employer.

04:27.700 --> 04:59.000

[Promotora] Ok

[Worker] Those are things that they have established. Livestock companies, they have established that so that one cannot talk to the boss. In order not to pay more money, they say, I pay you this and this is it. And stayed.

[Promotora] So, there is no possibility, not even because you have special abilities? Or because it is good to do your job, or because it is good to do your job, you cannot speak directly to the employer, right?

05:00.000 --> 05:20.200

[Worker] Exactly.

[Promotora] Ok

[Worker] And well, rather, my problem, well I think that now it would be - it came to cause problems in these times of the coronavirus. I think it came to cause a little trouble, because there is work in Colorado, there are many different jobs, that I know how to do, as a machinist.

05:00.000 --> 05:48.000

[Worker] The problem is that, well I am illegal. I don't have papers and that's where ... that's where everything ends.

[Promotora] In other words, his only work resource is to work in agriculture due to lack of documents.

[Worker] Exactly, it is a problem that I have. Now that it's causing me a lot of trouble. Because it is only in the dairy or in the field. I know how to do many things, but no, they do not accept me for that very reason.

05:50.000 --> 06:31.000

[Promotora] Why do you work here in Colorado? Why are you here in Colorado?

[Worker] That is a very good reason, sorry. That is a very good question. I come from vegas, in Vegas I have good patterns, I always worked very well, but I got sick, and I can't work at night anymore. I couldn't sleep anymore; I can't work at night anymore.

[Worker] So, they discovered that my … the height or something, as they say, the height that is the same as where I was born in my town, is in Colorado. It has the same level, that is the reason that I came to Colorado.

06:33.000 --> 06:48.000

[Worker] But in Vegas, I have a lot – there is a lot of work for me, of what I know how to do.

[Promotora] Ok. If you could, or had 60 seconds to speak directly to a state legislator, what would you say to them?

06:50.000 --> 07:21.500

[Worker] If they could try to … they could try to see how agriculture works, what the field is, what is livestock, to be sure that exact salaries are paid and that breaks are given exactly at their hours and that people are treated well. Have all your things in order.

[Promotora] Ok, anything else you would like to add?

07:22.750 --> 07:53.000

[Worker] No, well I don’t think so, no.

[Promotora] Something that you think that I did not ask, that you would like to know about what it is like to work in the fields or the injustice of an agricultural worker.

[Worker] The injustice that is happening here in Colorado, which I have looked at with the bosses, is that the bosses want, what is here in livestock, they want to pay … everyone gets - they are agreeing to pay the same salary.

07:54.000 --> 08:29.000

[Worker] If you leave this job here, you go and look for another job there and they pay you the same. They all want to pay the same. And twelve hours, they want to give you twelve hours of work and I think that is not it, it is not correct. There is hardly any dairy that does not want to give you twelve hours, one to thirteen and another to twelve. Always twelve hours.

[Promotora] And there is no wonder if you feel bad or get sick or something, right? It has to be twelve hours in a row.

08:30.000 --> 08:48.000

[Worker] Twelve hours. And there are cases that, if you call that you are sick, the next day you are fired.

[Promotora] Ok.

[Worker] Because they don't believe.

[Promotora] Ok. Regarding family emergencies, no, they can't take a day off for a family emergency either?

08:51.000 --> 09:14.000

[Worker] There are companies that do give it to you. There are companies that do not. What has happened to me, I have never asked for that and the days that it happened to me, personally, that I got sick, the check came out small. They never paid me for the day.

[Worker] Me here in Colorado, I have never asked, like this, a rest day benefit, vacation. That… I never asked for extra days, never.

09:15.000 --> 09:55.250

[Worker] What I have in 15 years.

[Promotora] How have you seen the condition of COVID, how has been managed between the Dairy workers or the Agricultural workers? Has the importance been given to it or do the bosses really care what is happening?

[Worker] No. I say they don't care. What they want is work. They don't care, because in my second job I had, there, each one - one grabs a machine and then the other comes and grabs it and I told the boss.

09:55.750 --> 10:06.000

[Worker] That we couldn't be grabbing each other's things. He says nothing happens.

[Promotora] Ok.

[Worker] But I think they don't care about that.

10:07.000 --> 10:31.000

[Promotora] Ok. Okay, would you like to give us your name or do you prefer to remain anonymous?

[Worker] No, I prefer to be like this, anonymous.

[Promotora] Very well, thank you very much for your help and hopefully there will be some change or benefit for the agricultural workers.

[Worker] Ok, thanks a lot.

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:14.000

00:14.001 --> 00:37.000

00:39.001 --> 00:55.001

00:57.000 --> 01:24.012

01:25.001 --> 01:52.000
[Promotora] Okay

01:53.057 --> 02:40.009

02:47.000 --> 03:13.987
[Trabajadora 1] El tiempo.
[Trabajadora 1] No trabajamos

03:14.000 --> 03:20.700

03:20.750 --> 03:34.000
[Promotora] ¿Y es un periodo largo?
[Trabajadora 1] Sí, 3 meses.
[Trabajador 2] Sí, pues vamos hablando de unos 3 meses.
[Promotora] Difícil. ¿Ok, qué crees que causa estas dificultades? ¿Por qué sería las dificultades estas?

03:35.001 --> 04:13.500

04:13.501--> 04:32.000
[Promotora] Ok. ¿Por qué trabajan aquí en Colorado?
[Trabajadora 1] Por necesidad.

04:32.050 --> 04:53.500
[Trabajadora 1] La necesidad
[Trabajador 2] La necesidad, desgraciadamente, la necesidad. A veces…

04:53.505 --> 05:10.050

05:10.055 --> 05:34.000

05:36.000 --> 06:09.000

Could you tell me a little about what it's like to work in Colorado as a farm worker?
[Worker 1] Well, it's a bit tiresome because of the time when the cold, the heat, (inaudible) ... work.

00:39.001 --> 00:55.001
[Promotora] You sir, what do you think?
[Worker 2] Well yes, sometimes there are bad times, but also good times. A mix of everything, but a good job (inaudible) here in the state of Colorado.

00:57.000 --> 01:24.012
[Promotora] Please would you describe your experience working on farms in Colorado? How is your experience working on these farms?
[Worker 2] Ok, myself ... I have since 1999 that I arrived here to the United States, to Colorado. I worked in cow stables, milking cows. I learned to inseminate cows for reproduction. We are talking about 1999, it lasted like 5 years.

01:25.001 --> 01:52.000
[Worker 2] Now I am in ***** which is called ****** is the one we have now, but I am working with that area of *****. But we have more time in these companies and more experience.
[Promotora] Okay

01:53.057 --> 02:40.009
[Worker 2] What I analyze there is, tree maintenance.
[Promotora] OK. Ma'am, do you want to talk to me about that?
[Worker 1] I work with plants, plant maintenance, orders (inaudible).
[Promotora] What is difficult about working on ... as farmers in Colorado, on Colorado farms? It is… what would it be?

02:47.000 --> 03:13.987
[Worker 1] Time.
[Worker 2] Sometimes it's time. It’s time because, as in this case that we work here, we do not work all year. It is temporary. So, in this time as right now we have no work.
[Worker 1] We do not work.
[Worker 2] We are out of work and it is difficult because one does not save so much money to pay the bills, different bills, and it is a little more, more difficult for oneself because we do not have an income to survive in this time that we do not work.

03:14.000 --> 03:20.700
[Promotora] And in this case, do they both work in the same place?
[Worker 2] Yes, in the same company.
[Promotora] Do you two rest the same time?
[Worker 1] At the same time
[Worker 2] Yes, the same time.

03:20.750 --> 03:34.000
[Promotora] And is it a long period?
[Worker 1] Yes, 3 months.
[Worker 2] Yes, we are talking about 3 months.
[Promotora] Hard. Ok, what do you think causes these difficulties? Why would these difficulties be?

03:35.001 --> 04:13.500
[Worker 1] Well, work ends because it is outside, because it is temporary.
[Worker 2] It is temporary. And we do not collect a lot of money, in reality it is little money that one collects because then one has expenses. You must pay rent, well, all that is services. You have to pay for gas, you have to pay for everything. Phone, you must pay for everything, you have to pay.
[Worker 2] So it is a lot of money and we have so little, it is not a lot of money to survive.

04:13.501--> 04:32.000
[Promotora] Ok. Why do you work here in Colorado?
[Worker 1] For necessity.
[Worker 2] Well we like the state of Colorado. And we work out of necessity, but we like ... several jobs and the good thing is, that we have found very good jobs. And here we are in this state to work hard.

04:32.050 --> 04:53.500
[Promotora] Ok, in your case; What brought you here to Colorado?
[Worker 1] Out of necessity
[Worker 2] Out of necessity, unfortunately, out of necessity. Sometimes…
[Worker 1] Being able to help the family that stays in Mexico. Because well, that's why one comes here, right. You leave your family to support them.

04:53.505 --> 05:10.050
[Worker 2] One loses loved ones in Mexico, for example: 12 years ago, my mother died and unfortunately, I could not return to Mexico. I regret that I couldn't be with her. Just recently her mother died too. What is it, like about ... a year old?
[Worker 1] One year.
[Worker 2] A year ago that his mother died too. He already lost a brother here too, here in Colorado.

05:10.055 --> 05:34.000
[Worker 2] About 11 years ago and it is sad too, because he is losing his family. Me being here and the elderly in my family are already dying, I just have my 81-year-old dad in Mexico. And that's what, it has a weight on me right now, because he is an elder man and I am the smallest of the family and here I am, working hard to be able to contribute money to for them to survive there. [Promotora] Yes, well it is a very sad situation.
[Worker 2] Yes

05:36.000 --> 06:09.000
[Promotora] Ok, if you had 60 seconds, if they had a minute to speak directly to state legislators, with the people, what would you say? What would you say to them, what would you ask, what would you tell them?
[Worker 2] Well, that they would help us, that they would help us to overcome ourselves and be able to come out stronger in this country, in this state to be able to have better jobs.</text>

00:17.500 --> 00:32.000

00:33.000 --> 00:46.000

00:46.700 --> 01:02.700

01:03.000 --> 01:24.000

01:24.500 --> 01:34.000

01:34.500 --> 02:01.000

02:01.500 --> 02:07.000

02:09.750 --> 02:30.000

02:31.000 --> 02:44.000

02:48.000 --> 03:18.000

03:20.000 --> 03:44.000

03:45.000 --> 03:58.000

04:04.500 --> 01:34.000

[Trabajador] Sí, me gustaría.

[Worker] Well the workday starts every day at 4:30 in the morning. For that you have to get up 1 hour before and prepare to go to work.

00:17.500 --> 00:32.000

[Worker] I work in a cattle farm in the mill area. We need to have everything ready from 4:30 AM so that there is already food ready, so that the other departments may start working.

00:33.000 --> 00:46.000

[Worker] Basically I am making food for the cattle, maintaining the mill and different activities, everything that is presented.

00:46.700 --> 01:02.700

[Worker] From cleaning to repair of the devices, be it mechanical, electrical, welding, all the work that needs to be done there so that the whole mill works. So that everything works well.

01:03.000 --> 01:24.000

[Worker] No departure time. It is depending on how many animals there are, if there was no problem during the day with the other departments or with us too. If everything goes well, if it goes well so around 2 – 3pm in the afternoon we are already… we are already unoccupied.

01:24.500 --> 01:34.000

[Worker] But if there's a problem then we don't have time, until it is composed, and everything is ready to be able… to return to make food the next day.

01:34.500 --> 02:01.000

[Worker] In this job, I arrived in August 2018. I have 2 years - 2 and a half years working in this place. I have been working in the mill area, so where I work is the rolling machine and the feed mixing system and the elevator.

02:01.500 --> 02:07.000

[Worker] There are 3 areas where we have been working. The opportunity has been given to learn a little about everything.

02:09.750 --> 02:30.000

[Worker] The things that they do, that make this job a little more difficult is more than anything, the weather issue. The weather issue since we start working at 4:30 in the morning and we know that at that time is when it is coldest.

02:31.000 --> 02:44.000

[Worker] So many times our appliances freeze they don't want ... they don't want to start work in the morning. So being a job that is done outdoors, it is a bit complicated.

02:48.000 --> 03:18.000

[Worker] Regarding the money they pay me to do my job, I think it's fine for the time I have. Obviously we would all like to earn more money. It is not salary I earn by the hour. So obviously we all want to have more work hours so that we can do better. But in general I think it is fine for the little time I have doing this job.

03:20.000 --> 03:44.000

[Worker] Thank God, there are no great needs that we can have, right. Here the heaviest thing is, I think that, is being away from the family. In my case, for all of us who live here, thank God, I had the opportunity to go to work here with my wife and children.

03:45.000 --> 03:58.000

[Worker] And obviously at the beginning we did have some needs, but as it happens and by working very hard, we have been able to overcome everything. Thank God everything is fine right now.

04:04.500 --> 01:34.000

[Worker] Yes, I'd like to. I would like to remain anonymous, ideal.</text>

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:17.000

00:17.750 --> 00:34.700

00:36.570 --> 01:07.050
[Promotora] Ok, vamos a empezar.

01:07.500 --> 01:49.000
[Promotora] Ok.

01:50.000 --> 02:06.000
[Promotora] Ok. ¿Por qué trabajas aquí en Colorado? ¿Qué te trae por aquí?
[Trabajador] Familiares.

02:06.500 --> 02:51.000
[Promotora] Ok.

02:51.700 --> 03:00.000
[Promotora] Ok.
[Promotora] Ok, gracias.
[Trabajador] Hasta luego.</text>

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:17.000
[Promotora] Hello, my name is Laura Salinas. I am a Promotora of North Region 3 of Yuma, Eckley and Wray Colorado. We are working on the Project Protect from FrontLine Farming; we are trying to reach out to state legislators to help agricultural people.

00:17.750 --> 00:34.700
[Promotora] We have some bills to pay sick days, increase wages and many other things. Is it okay if I ask you a few questions?
[Worker] Yes, that's fine.

00:36.570 --> 01:07.050
[Promotora] Ok, let's start.

01:07.500 --> 01:49.000

01:50.000 --> 02:06.000
[Promotora] Ok. Why do you work here in Colorado? What brings you here?
[Worker] Family. I have relatives who came here before me and it was already through them that I can come here, to work as well.

02:06.500 --> 02:51.000

02:51.700 --> 03:00.000
[Promotora] Ok. Do you want to remain anonymous, or do you want to say your name?
[Worker] Yes, I would like to remain anonymous, please.
[Promotora] Ok, thanks.
[Worker] See you later.</text>
