<text>

</text>

              <text>
Good afternoon, I,m a Mexican woman who works in the field in Northeast Colorado in Morgan County. Working in agriculture is difficult, this is heavy work and not very well paid. These are long days and very poorly paid, in this a lot of sacrifice is made because I am a mother of a family. It’s hard to drop the kids off at school early and get to work as fast as possible. Sometimes the work starts very early and our children have to enlist and walk to school alone. When we are working the bosses get upset and are not flexible to our schedules as mothers. I understand it’s my job, but I wish that just as I respond in my work there would be a little more flexibility on their part, but sometimes it’s not all the employers, it’s the managers who are unfortunately Hispanic like us.

At work we are not always provided water or bathroom breaks. Sometimes when we are provided a bathroom, we have to avoid drinking water because they won’t let us go to the bathroom often. We have to work even if the sun is strong, raining. This is something that is not valued by our employers. And even though we do

our job as we’re told, they’re not always happy. Many times we feel discriminated against by our

appearance or simply because we don’t have papers.

The salary is the minimum we are paid at $13.00 per hour, without overtime opportunity. They are long working days and with what we are paid sometimes we do not even make enough to pay rent, food or bills. Sometimes we have to choose or prioritize what is most important.

My life in quarantine was hard because we worked in fear of getting sick, because we didn’t stop working. There were a lot more people asking for work and not knowing them or knowing if they were healthy worried us. There were no security measures, they never checked our temperature or asked if we felt bad. They only gave us one mask per shift and they were not strict as not everyone wore it as it was easy to be more than 10 people in a closed place. If I felt bad I had to work anyway for fear of losing my job.

Then we realized that the employers were paying us at $18.00 an hour but the manager was paying us at $13, this was very unfortunate because only one partner had the courage to claim from the butler and lost his job. I honestly didn’t say anything because this job is how I feed myself and my kids. This is seen very often when we work in the field, bosses pay one thing and we get another.

[Q: If you had the opportunity to speak with legislators, what would you say?]

I would tell them that the work in agriculture should be better paid, that our basic rights were asserted as human beings. Equality for those who have and don’t have papers because we do the same job. Let them stop exploiting us in such long days and if it is long days they have the right to overtime. I’m not afraid of work, because that’s what I came to, I just want the right thing.
</text>

00:33.000 --> 00:39.000

[Promotora] ¿Sí?

[Trabajadora] Oh, sí está muy bien.

[Promotora] Ok…

[Trabajadora] Que bueno oiga

[Promotora] Ahora te voy a hacer las preguntas.

[Trabajadora] Ok, sí está bien.

00:39.500 --> 01:00.000

[Promotora 2] (Susurra) Mas fuerte

01:01.200 --> 01:23.000

01:23.700 --> 01:37.000

[Trabajadora] Ok.

01:39.500 --> 02:05.000

02:06.200 --> 02:25.000

[Promotora] No puedes estarlos llevando…

02:26.500 --> 03:00.000

03:01.000 --> 03:19.000

03:19.500 --> 03:46.000

03:47.000 --> 04:02.000

A seguir adelante…

04:02.700 --> 04:25.000

04:25.500 --> 04:44.000

[Trabajadora] Exacto.

[Promotora] Esenciales, trabajadores esenciales.

04:45.000 --> 05:10.000

05:10.500 --> 05:47.000

05:47.750 --> 06:11.000

06:11.500 --> 06:32.000

06:32.500 --> 06:54.000

[Promotoras] Ah. Muchas gracias, muchas gracias.

[Trabajadora] Pues muchas gracias a ustedes señorita.

[Promotora 2] Que tenga bonita tarde.

[Trabajadora] Igualmente, gracias. Que amables.
</text>

[Promotora] Hello, good afternoon

[Worker] Good afternoon

[Promotora] How is it going?

[Worker] Very good thank God. And you?

[Promotora] Very good too, thanks God. I'd like to ask you a few questions if I could.

[Worker] Yes, that's fine.

00:11.000 --> 00:30.000

[Promotora] Ok, look: The organization we work for is interested in hearing the stories of the workers in the field. Work is now under way on a bill to strengthen the rights of agricultural workers.

[Promotora] These stories that you tell us will go to legislators for a bill.

00:33.000 --> 00:39.000

[Promotora] Yes?

[Worker] Oh yeah that's fine.

[Promotora] Ok…

[Worker] Good to hear.

[Promotora] Now I'm going to ask you the questions.

[Worker] OK, yes, it's fine.

00:39.500 --> 01:00.000

[Promotora] Well, can you tell me a little about what it's like to farm here in Colorado?

[Worker] Well for me it has been very hard. He ... because of the fact that I struggled in the first place, because, I don't have someone to take care of the child. Someone who can take him to school, pick him up.

[Promotora] And you have to work.

[Worker] And i have to work.

[Promotora 2] (Whispers) Louder

01:01.200 --> 01:23.000

[Worker] I have to look for a ride and there are times that I do not have for gasoline. I have to be looking for a ride, someone who can do me a favor. It's very very difficult.

[Worker] Very hard because also, well, I don't know if it's okay for me to say all this, but sometimes …

[Promotora] No, because that is your experience. The one that you are telling me, so everything you can tell me about that is very good.

01:23.700 --> 01:37.000

[Worker] Ok. I do not know, yes, it is very, very difficult even more if you have children and or live far from…

[Promotora] Where do you work.

[Worker] From the workplace.

[Promotora] Ok, what's so difficult about working with Colorado farmers and Colorado farms?

01:39.500 --> 02:05.000

[Worker] Well, the most difficult thing is the people. That sometimes you meet people who are just like you, but for one more position, for one more position they are given, sometimes they are very unfair to oneself.

[Worker] It's difficult because you come from far away, tired, thinking about so many things, leaving your children, sometimes you even leave them alone at home because you don't have someone to take care of them or right now with this pandemic you can't ... right now with this pandemic.

02:06.200 --> 02:25.000

[Promotora] You can't be taking them…

[Worker] School… they can't, they can't go to school, so you have to risk leaving them alone. It is difficult for you to get to work and sometimes there are people who do not ... who sometimes even catch your attention because they are late; even if they know the difficulties that you come through for being there.

[Promotora] For being there. What do you think causes these difficulties that you just told me?

02:26.500 --> 03:00.000

[Worker] Well many things; sometimes, as I tell you, the people who help the bosses, those who rule, they give them one more rank and take advantage of that.

[Worker] Many times also, like, they don't give ... they don't have water. and those are very hard difficulties there, maybe, there are also people who, for example, we had an experience with someone who was nothing there and out of nowhere he began to speak bad words to us.

03:01.000 --> 03:19.000

[Worker] I mean, that was also not good. There were some difficulties for those reasons. That they refer to people in a bad way, in a bad way. And those are many things that one as a worker has to go through.

[Promotora] That one experiences.

[Worker] Yes and sometimes the bosses, the one who really is the boss, the one who pays you, he does not realize all that.

03:19.500 --> 03:46.000

[Promotora] Of everything the worker is going through.

[Worker] It is difficult because they are not there at times, so that you can make a complaint with the one who really corresponds.

[Promotora] Why did you want to work here in Colorado?

[Worker] Well because here I live. Here I arrived, I had to work in the fields, because right now I had nothing else to work on. And here I like it, here I live, here is my family. So here, here I am.

03:47.000 --> 04:02.000

[Promotora] What was it that brought you here?

[Worker] Well supposedly as one says, a better life. To be able to move on …

[Promotora] In search for something better

[Worker] In search of something better for a better future, for our children more than anything.

04:02.700 --> 04:25.000

[Promotora] If you had 60 seconds to speak to state legislators, what would you tell them?

[Worker] Well, that they take one more into account as an agricultural worker. Because we are not taken into account in any of the … to say, now in this of the pandemic, we are the ones who are never first, we are the forgotten. You could say …

[Promotora] Saying that you are all non-primordial?

04:25.500 --> 04:44.000

[Worker] Exactly.

[Promotora] Essentials, essential workers.

[Worker] Exactly that's it. Farmers' labor is very poorly paid. Very, very badly paid. And sometimes too, they take advantage of that. If your employer gives you a salary and the one who hired you takes away your money, that is, there should be more control, in everything.

04:45.000 --> 05:10.000

[Worker] That they give us a fair payment, that they should treat us as people, other than … there should be no racism. Because there are many people who treat them … I can say it, there are people of other races who are treated even worse than you and it is very sad that all those legislators here in Colorado do not pay attention to those things, small or not … well, for us they are great details, the fact that they do not take us into account.

05:10.500 --> 05:47.000

[Promotora] Is there anything else you would like to add about your experience or something I have learned?

[Worker] No, well, until now that's all miss. Well, it's good that there is someone like you who supports us, who listens to us, that can carry out our thoughts, all our complaints towards those people, those legislators who hopefully and, with all these, sorry, these things that we are going through and that it can reach them from you, they can take us more into account and have a little more of…

05:47.750 --> 06:11.000

[Promotora] Consideration?

[Worker] Yes of consideration, of treatment and better salary for people.

[Promotora] Well, this is our job, and it is what we are doing and of course we would like to be able to help you more. That is why we are in this, right, and if you need something or know something else that you would like to share with us, you know you can look for us whenever you want.

06:11.500 --> 06:32.000

[Worker] Ah well thank you very much for everything. We also thank you very much for the pantry. We are very, very happy because that help is very, very valuable to us.

[Promotora] That's good.

[Worker] I hope and, you continue, because, even if it is cold, snowing, we have had the pantry brought to us and we highly value the work that you are doing, miss.

06:32.500 --> 06:54.000

[Promotoras] Ah. Thank you very much, thank you very much.

[Promotora] And the last question, would you like to remain anonymous, or do you want to give us your name?

[Worker] No, look, I would like to remain … remain anonymous.

[Promotora] Ok, thank you very much for your time and for everything you shared with us.

[Worker] Well thank you very much miss.

[Promotora 2] Have a nice afternoon.

[Worker] Anyway, thank you. So, kind.
</text>

              <text>

[PROMOTORA] Le pregunté “Que has probado, y ella me dijo

Quisiera tener mejor trabajo.

Nuevamente gracias.
</text>

They then abuse the women and force them into prostitution, beat them or do not feed them, and experience extreme heat or cold.

[PROMOTORA] Some things I noticed about the worker:

The suffering, pain and helplessness they feel to achieve the plans they had. The frustration and bitterness because they saw their lives cut short. It is not what they expected, they stay strong for their children. This lady speaks very sadly, as if she has no hope of a different life.

She did not want to say how much they pay her per hour, did not want to talk about work.

A detail: It is not the best job, but here she feels accompanied, less alone.

A detail: She was abused and does not want to talk about it anymore. She feels there is no justice for her.

[PROMOTORA] I asked “What have you tried?”, and she told me

Nothing, she had many difficulties since she left her town in 1998. She did not want to report it out of fear and because she did not know the poultry farm that they left her with when crossing. She was without papers, threatened and forced to work in the fields, cleaning, cooking. In addition, she became pregnant with a man, had a child and later he ran away with 2 other women. She managed to get to Colorado where a friend of hers from the same town would wait for her. She did not find her friend and she began to work in the fields, in cabbage, beets, all that. Then she came to Greeley to work in the slaughterhouses but they asked her for money to start and get her papers. She had no money, no house, no car, so she cleaned houses and then began working at sheep farms. She got together with a man who paid the rent and had another boy and a girl. All her children go to school.

What they would like to see happen: She hopes her children will have a better life than she has had so far.

[PROMOTORA] I asked, “What do you need”, and she told me,

I wish I had a better job.

[PROMOTORA] I asked “Do you want to remain anonymous or do you want us to give your name?” and she told me,

I don't want to give my name, nobody cares.

PROMOTORA] Mrs. Maria, thank you for your time and for sharing your story with me. I know how difficult this is for you. Don't worry, no one will use this to comment on later. I leave you my phone number so that you can contact me if I can help you in something. Thank you again.
</text>

              <text>

</text>

              <text>
Good, the starting time varies, it depends a lot on the season, for example now we are entering or clocking in at 5:45 am. Our job is related to everything regarding animal health, this mean, we look over ill animals and take them to be taken care of. We also conduct activities related to checking corrals to make sure that animals are where they need to be. Daily work can vary, there are days that there is not much to do and there are days where there is too much to do. We usually are out between 4-5pm.

This is a topic hard to talk about. To be sincere, I think we can be better paid. I do not know why we are not better paid, but I believe we can be paid more. Without impacting the company.

Like I commented regarding the question above, pay is important in this job and in others. If we would like to sustain our lives with this salary that we currently have, it is not enough, and you cant. Rent, services, food, car insurance, medical insurance, etc. it comes to a lot and we do not have enough. I think with better salaries we would live better, and we would work harder.

I think that the weather is what can impact me doing my job at a 100%, because the weather can be extreme. If there is snow, we have to check the corals, if there is rain, if it is really hot, wind, etc. The corals have to be checked, no matter the weather.

The question of how to better working conditions is hard, I do not think that the boss can do much, since our job is to be outside working in the corals, 100% of the time, from when we get there until we get out.

It would be good for the bosses to know the needs and the feelings of their employees. For them to worry a bit more about the personal needs of each of their employees.

You can use my name, as long as I do not get into any trouble with my job.
</text>

              <text>00:00.000 --> 00:08.000
[Promotora] Hola, buenas tardes ¿cómo está?
[Trabajadora] Bien, gracias a Dios.
[Promotora] Que bueno. Me gustaría hacerle unas preguntas.
[Trabajadora] Dígame.
[Promotora] Si está bien? Ok, mire.

00:07.700 --> 00:28.000

00:29.000 --> 00:40.000

00:43.000 --> 01:15.000

01:17.000 --> 01:31.000

01:34.000 --> 02:00.000

02:02.500 --> 02:25.200

02:25.700 --> 02:41.000

02:42.000 --> 03:07.000
[Trabajadora] Pues nada.

03:08.000 --> 03:23.500
[Trabajadora] Mhm.

03:23.750 --> 03:51.000
[Promotora] Porque de eso vive.
[Trabajadora] Mhm

03:52.000 --> 04:03.000
[Promotora 2] Muchas gracias. Y buenas tardes
[Trabajadora] Igualmente a ustedes. Gracias por la despensa.
[Todos] Gracias</text>

              <text>
00:00.000 --> 00:08.000

[Promotora] Hello good afternoon, how are you?

[Worker] Good thank God.

[Promotora] That's good. I would like to ask you some questions.

[Worker] Go ahead.

[Promotora] Yes, that's fine? Ok look.

00:07.700 --> 00:28.000

[Promotora] The organization we work for is interested in hearing stories from the field workers.

[Promotora] Work is underway on a bill to strengthen the rights of agricultural workers. These stories will go to the legislators to make a bill. Ok, then I'm going to read the questions to you.

00:29.000 --> 00:40.000

[Promotora] Can you tell me a little about what it's like to work in agriculture in Colorado?

[Worker] Well, I think it is the heaviest job that exists and the one that is the most poorly paid.

00:43.000 --> 01:15.000

[Promotora] What's so difficult for you, working with Colorado farmers and on Colorado farms?

[Worker] What is difficult? Well, the work, which is, as I say, is very heavy and poorly paid. As in winter time, they walk in the cold and everything or in hot weather. And many times, the bosses do not have the most basic things for us, like, a latrine with cold water, like, things that are basic and so on.

01:17.000 --> 01:31.000

[Promotora] What do you think causes these difficulties that you just mentioned to me?

[Worker] Obviously, because the lack of documents, of a residence. It is what … because a person with documents is not going to be doing the work that those people do.

01:34.000 --> 02:00.000

[Promotora] Why did you want to work here in Colorado?

[Worker] It is not that people want, many times, it is because people need work and you have to work, anywhere.

[Promotora] And what brought you here?

[Worker] The lack of work, of opportunities in our country and that is why people emigrate for a better life, out of necessity, to have a better life for their children.

02:02.500 --> 02:25.200

[Promotora] If you had 60 seconds to speak to state legislators, what would you tell them?

[Worker] To be given the same opportunities as any other American citizen or American resident. Because to the emigrant, all those who have the name ... ID Number, are declaring their taxes. And they take away medicare, insurance and all that.

02:25.700 --> 02:41.000

[Worker] And those, those benefits the immigrant does not have.

[Promotora] Would you like to share one more thing with us? An experience you have had about the field? Something that you have been missing here, that I have asked you?

02:42.000 --> 03:07.000

[Worker] Well nothing. I know of some people who work in the fields and once, a person had an accident and broke - it did not break, it was a cut … he sliced off his finger. The finger, it was a little bit, it fell and ended up down there and continued working and they did not call the ambulance, nor did they send him to the hospital, nor did he receive first aid.

[Worker] And like that, he continued working, bleeding.

[Promotora] He kept working?

03:08.000 --> 03:23.500

[Worker] Mhm. And I think that if he had known - He had rights here - he knew of his rights, but he was afraid of being fired.

[Pormotora] Aha, that they were - that they take his job away.

[Worker] Yes, that they might of take his job away from him. And it is obvious that his work is indispensable.

03:23.750 --> 03:51.000

[Promotora] Because that's what he lives on.

[Worker] Mhm

[Promotora] Ok, would you like to say your name, or do you want to remain anonymous?

[Worker] Remain anonymous, because many times the people who speak, well, many times they have retaliation or something. As the workers cannot speak, they cannot say anything, for fear that their job will be taken away from them and that is, well, that is what people are surviving with.

03:52.000 --> 04:03.000

[Promotora] Thank you very much for your time and for sharing these things with us.

[Promotora 2] Thanks a lot. And good afternoon

[Worker] The same to you. Thanks for the pantry.

00:06.000 --> 00:40.000

[Promotora] Ok and please describe your experience as a Colorado Farm Worker.

[Worker] Well, it would be that one leaves their children for several hours. Because they are long work days.

00:47.000 --> 01:02.500

[Promotora] Okay. What's so difficult about working with Colorado farmers and on Colorado farms?

[Worker] Well, sometimes they feel superior to you and do not treat you as a Worker, as in any company.

01:05.000 --> 01:20.000

[Promotora] What do you think causes these difficulties? What do you think causes these difficulties?

[Worker] Well, because of how agriculture is, they do not take it into account, and we do not have benefits from anything.

01:21.000 --> 01:38.000

[Promotora] Why do you work here in Colorado?

[Worker] Because I have a lot living here and well, I like it.

[Promotora] And what brings you here?

01:46.000 --> 02:28.000

[Worker] To work and improve ourselves and live a little better.

[Promotora] If you could have about 60 seconds to speak directly to state legislators, what would you say to them?

[Worker] Well, help us more to … That they help us more and value our work as farmers so that they know the effort that one makes. Also, we leave our children alone and it is also very poorly paid. Sometimes there are very racist or bad people, and they don't treat us well.

02:29.000 --> 02:28.000

[Promotora] All right, would you like to remain anonymous, or would you like to give your name?

[Worker] Well yes, yes. I don't want you to know.

[Promotora] Ok, well that's all. Thank you very much for answering these questions and since this will be anonymous, your name will not appear. Thanks, a lot!

              <text>Maria is 65 years old and is still actively harvesting onions and carrots. Maria works one season in one place and another season in another state, migrating constantly pursuing her jobs. She says that she was cultivating onions this summer when she pulled the vegetable and slipped backwards and fell on her back, hitting her hip hard. That made it impossible for her to walk and even straighten up or stand up. Unfortunately Maria did not receive any help from her foreman much less from the owner of the enterprise. This caused her to be sad but at the same time uncertain since she did not want to lose her job. Maria does not know how to read nor write, and although she is a legal resident and has official permission to work, she did not want to bother her boss or ask for help to go to the doctor for fear of losing her job since her age and illiteracy makes it harder for her to find a new job. Maria spent a month without being able to walk, sit, or sleep without pain, easily one could see inflammation and a hardened lump peeking out at the end of her spine, making the situation for the innocent citizen more painful.
Mrs. Socorro paid for her X-rays and visits to the doctor and she commented that her doctors did not give her any prescriptions of analgesic or anti-inflammatory that would help her with the intense pain. After a month and a half she decided to force herself to return to harvest and thus be able to have some income, since she had not worked for a month since the accident and without any support, Maria feared that she would be evicted and she would not be able to afford food. It was not until she contacted the Promotoras that she was able to get physical and economic aid that would help her. Mrs. Socorro returned to harvesting and forced herself little by little to finish her day when she fainted. Once again she lost her balance and fell on the harvest with a running fever. No one knew what to do and without wanting to get into trouble she was only assisted to recline on the side of the crops without shade. Hours later, she found her condition worsening. By the afternoon, a Promotora took her to a doctor, only to discover that Mrs. Socorro still had a burning fever and was vomiting. That night, she was hospitalized, with obvious signs of dehydration and with severe vomiting Mrs. Socorro considered herself as a healthy and strong person and despite her age as someone that was still capable of working in the harvest and has visibly strong muscle tone out of the average for her age.
She has the willpower and hope that she will continue working until she can retire and can dedicate time to rest and take care of her home or watch her grandchildren. Maria has faith that her condition will improve, slowly striving to heal, improving her care within what her economic limitations allow. Maria is grateful that she found people in her path that have helped her improve her situation because they stop doing their own things to help her, they invest time to get her the help she needs.</text>

01:25.500 --> 01:49.000

[Promotora] This person does not have a family. She tells me that she needs work gloves, water boots, a jacket for the cold, a jacket to cover herself from the water when it rains and covers mouths.

[Promotora] Hola, buenas tardes.

[Trabajadora] Buenas tardes.

[Promotora] ¿Cómo está?

[Trabajador] Muy bien, gracias a Dios. ¿Y usted?

00:12.700 --> 00:33.000

00:33.500 --> 00:56.700

00:58.000 --> 01:20.000

01:20.700 --> 01:55.000

01:56.000 --> 02:22.000

02:23.000 --> 02:48.000

[Trabajadora] Pues no sé.

02:48.700 --> 03:04.000

03:04.500 --> 03:43.000

03:46.000 --> 04:15.000

[Promotora] Las necesidades primarias

04:15.500 --> 04:25.000

04:27.750 --> 04:59.000

05:01.000 --> 05:16.000

[Trabajadora] De nada.

05:17.000 --> 05:48.000

05:49.200 --> 06:05.000

06:06.000 --> 06:22.000

[Trabajadora] Sí, gracias a Dios.

[Trabajadora] No, a ustedes.

[Todos] Gracias
</text>

              <text>
00:00.000 --> 00:12.000

[Promotora] Hello, good afternoon.

[Worker] Good afternoon.

[Promotora] How is it going?

[Worker] Very good thank God. And you?

[Promotora] Good very good. Also thank god. The reason I'm here is to see if you can answer a few questions.

00:12.700 --> 00:33.000

[Promotora] The organization we work for is interested in hearing stories to … of the workers of the field. Work is under way on a bill to strengthen the rights of agricultural workers. These stories are going to go to the legislators to make a bill, can I ask you some questions?

[Worker] Yes of course

00:33.500 --> 00:56.700

[Promotora] Ok, can you tell me a little about what it's like to work in the Colorado farm field?

[Worker] Yeah right if. Well, it is actually somewhat difficult. I think they are jobs, one of the heavy ones, that I think exists. Agriculture, the countryside, everything that has to do with the same.

00:58.000 --> 01:20.000

[Worker] It's heavy, it's heavy. With the climates, the climate changes and well, in reality one has to move on, despite everything. Even if it is heavy, difficult or whatever. Because we won't find another job.

[Worker] It's hard nowadays to find a job. Heavy or not, we have to move on.

[Promotora] We have to do it.

[Worker] Yes do it.

01:20.700 --> 01:55.000

[Promotora] What do you have of … you … It was difficult for you to work with Colorado farmers and Colorado farms?

[Worker] Well actually the hardest thing, which was for me, as a woman there is no difference, it is the same. Work the same as a man, to give it, what are the hours in a row. The time of half an hour for food. When one as a woman needs to go to the toilets and all that. It does not have the same... the permission.

[Promotora] They don't have the same strength as a man.

01:56.000 --> 02:22.000

[Worker] Yes, exactly. So very, very difficult as a woman to work in those types of jobs. So, many of the times it happens with bosses, patterns that, they don't care. Whether it is a woman or a man, they see us with indifference and do not care if one … yes, it is heavy work, they don't care. Us working too hard.

02:23.000 --> 02:48.000

[Promotora] One is one more job, that's indifference.

[Worker] Exactly, yes. Yes of course.

[Promotora] What do you think causes these difficulties that you just told me?

[Worker] Well, I do not know. I think that, well, the first thing it causes is that they kill us, right, that's the main thing. But the other is that … Most of all, I think the patterns - what they want is to win them.

02:48.700 --> 03:04.000

[Worker] They don't care if we earn good or bad. They want to win themselves and always be the winners, no matter what we earn or what they pay us. And well, the slaughter of one, sort of speak.

[Promotora] Why did you want to work in Colorado?

03:04.500 --> 03:43.000

[Worker] Well actually, I wanted to work in Colorado … and in this part where I am - Apart from the fact that it borders me, because in reality, downtown…. everything is very expensive. Very expensive and for me, myself, in what was my experience it was to go to the outskirts because it was already very difficult with everything. Surviving to raise my children, I had to go live on the outskirts of the city.

[Worker] And work in… how could I put it, in Agriculture jobs, field and all those jobs, to get them ahead in life. That's why …

[Promotora] You arrived here.

[Worker] I arrived here.

03:46.000 --> 04:15.000

[Promotora] And what brings you here?

[Worker] Well nothing, a better future for my children. Where I can't … spend so much to pay rent, bills and all that. So that I can give them the best life that I can - to them, not so much in spending on what one has to pay for the …

[Promotora] Primary needs

[Worker] Exactly, the primary needs. If not, also, in what matters most to them and that I can spare a little to contribute to them. Because if not then I won't be able to do it.

04:15.500 --> 04:25.000

[Promotora] Because, well, really, if you work, it's for them.

[Worker] Exactly, yes. That's it. More than anything.

[Promotora] Ok, if you had 60 seconds to speak to state legislators, what would you say to them?

04:27.750 --> 04:59.000

[Worker] Well, I would tell them to become a little more aware, in us, to all people who work in the field and elsewhere. Being immigrants or non-immigrants, but that they could take a little bit on their conscience.

[Worker] To see ourselves similar to its citizens, to see ourselves a little bit the same. So that we have the same rights towards other people. Because we are all actually human beings and I think we all need a chance to be taken equally.

05:01.000 --> 05:16.000

[Promotora] Would you like to say your name, or do you want to remain anonymous?

[Worker] No, no. I have no disagreement with saying my name, I am Mayra Galindo.

[Promotora] Nice to meet you and thank you very much for your time.

[Worker] You are welcome.

05:17.000 --> 05:48.000

[Promotora] And for having shared this with us. If you have anything else to add, I don't know, one more experience you may have had - because, well, the questions are specific, but if you would like to add something else you can do it.

[Worker] No because the truth is that yes, I actually, I live here in the town of Willis and the truth is I am very grateful to all the people here in the Community. Of all the people who have helped us, from schools, from non-schools, mothers, people from houses, from home, just like me.

05:49.200 --> 06:05.000

[Worker] Because we've actually gotten a lot of help in all the time we've lived here at Willis. And we are very grateful my husband, my children, us at home.

[Worker] We never really had … We had never had to come to a town like the one we are in today and we hope to live here for many more years, to last.

06:06.000 --> 06:22.000

[Worker] Because actually there should be more places that help as much as here.

[Promotora] Oh thank you very much. How good that you had a good experience here in town.

[Worker] Yes thank God.

[Promotora] And so, thank you very much for having collaborated with us.

[Worker] No to you.

[Everybody] Thank you!</text>
