Celebrating the Birthdays of Agricultural Workers

This story comes from two promotoras, Brenda Villarreal and Maria Del Refugio. In mid-February 2022, they were able to travel to an agricultural worker housing site Mesa County to help an agricultural worker celebrate his birthday by surprising him with a cake. The worker was extremely excited, saying that he had not expected anything for his birthday, and the promotoras were glad that they were able to help him feel special.

Brenda recalls “He was really excited and happy he thought that we were not going to take him anything for his birthday. Like last year I started to take them a birthday cake when it's their birthday. Just the light in their face is what makes it all worth it.”
